Red Sox reassigned INF Vinny Capra, C Jason Delay, OF Braiden Ward, LHP Alec Gamboa and RHPs Tayron Guerrero and Kyle Keller to minor league camp.
Capra was in Red Sox camp as a non-roster invitee and failed to land a spot on the club’s season-opening roster in a bench role. Delay is merely emergency catching depth while Guerrero and Keller could be up as stopgap relief options at some point later this year.

Braiden Ward went 0-for-2 with a walk, RBI and a stolen base on Saturday as the Red Sox fell to the Braves in Grapefruit League play.
The 27-year-old speedster drove in a run with a fielder’s choice in the third inning and was then cut down trying to steal second base. He then walked and pilfered second base in the fifth inning. Ward had already set the spring training record for stolen bases his last time out but added to it by swiping his 18th bag in this one. He’s also hitting .361 (13-for-36) on the spring with zero homers and five RBI. He’s a name to keep in mind for fantasy purposes in the event that he ever gets a shot with the Red Sox.
  • BOS Center Fielder
Braiden Ward went 0-1 with two walks, a run scored, and two steals against the Tigers on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old now has 16 steals in 15 games while slashing .448/.543/.483. He also stole 57 bases between Double-A and Triple-A last season, so he is a name to keep an eye on if an injury opens up a spot in Boston’s outfield this season.
  • BOS Center Fielder
Braiden Ward went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base against the Phillies on Monday.
Ward now has a whopping 14 stolen bases in 14 spring games, while slashing .464/.531/.500 in 28 at-bats. The Red Sox got him from the Rockies in a trade for Brennan Bernardino in November after Ward hit .290/.395/.391 with two homers and 57 steals between Double- and Triple-A last season. He’ll start the year in Triple-A, but if an injury opens up a spot for Ward in Boston this season, his speed could be a real difference-maker.
  • BOS Center Fielder
Braiden Ward had two bunt singles, a hit by pitch and two steals against the Phillies on Thursday.
Ward already has 10 steals to go along with a .450/.522/.500 line in 23 plate appearances. The 27-year-old, who the Red Sox picked up from the Rockies for Brennan Bernardino in November, hit .290/.395/.391 with two homers and 57 steals between Double- and Triple-A last season. He’s not going to make the Red Sox out of spring training, but he could be quite the weapon off the bench late in the year and, should the Red Sox make it, in the postseason.
  • BOS Center Fielder
Red Sox acquired OF Braiden Ward from the Rockies for LHP Brennan Bernardino.
Ward comes back to Boston as a low-risk gamble after hitting .290/.395/.391 with two homers and 57 steals over 97 games between Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque last season. The 26-year-old projects as a bench outfielder and makes plenty of sense in a reserve role or as organizational depth.
