Red Sox signed INF Vinny Capra to a minor league contract.
The 29-year-old Capra, who debuted with the Blue Jays in 2022, has proven to be a fine Triple-A infielder, but he has hit just .133/.181/.188 in 142 career major league plate appearances. He probably won’t have much of a chance of making the Red Sox out of spring training.
  • CWS 3rd Baseman #41
White Sox sent INF Vinny Capra outright to Triple-A Charlotte.
It’s Capra’s first outright, so he’ll have to accept the assignment. The 29-year-old hit .190/.205/.238 in 46 plate appearances during his month and a half in the majors with the White Sox.

White sox designated INF Vinny Capra for assignment.
It’s not such a wonderful life for Capra, as he’ll now hit the waiver wire with Colson Montgomery getting recalled from Charlotte to make his MLB debut. Capra may see some interest on the waiver wire from a team needing infield depth, but it’s just as likely that he reports to Charlotte himself after going unclaimed.
  • CWS Shortstop #10
Chase Meidroth is not in the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Blue Jays.
Meidroth takes a seat for the first time in eight games since June 11. The 23-year-old rookie has slipped into a bit of a funk at the dish in recent weeks, hitting .220 (13-for-59) with one homer and 16 strikeouts over his last 15 games. Hopefully the off day enables him to resent mentally and get back on track. Journeyman Vinny Capra will handle shortstop on Saturday afternoon in his place.
  • CWS Shortstop #10
Chase Meidroth is on the bench for Wednesday’s showdown against the Astros.
It’s a rare off-day for Meidroth, who has emerged as Chicago’s primary shortstop this season, hitting .293/.383/.363 with two homers and eight steals through 44 games. He lacks the power ceiling to emerge as a viable option in shallow mixed leagues, but his batting average, on-base skills and speed give him some appeal in deeper fantasy formats. It’ll be Vinny Capra filling in at shortstop and batting ninth on Wednesday night.
  • CWS 3rd Baseman #18
White sox claimed INF Vinny Capra off waivers from the Brewers.
Capra went 5-for-54 before being designated for assignment by the Brewers. The White Sox will give the 28-year-old infielder a look, but fantasy managers should not do the same.
  • MIL 3rd Baseman #18
Brewers designated INF Vinny Capra for assignment.
Capra won a spot on the Milwaukee roster out of spring training, but the 28-year-old was atrocious in his limite chances; picking up just 4 hits in 54 at-bats. There’s a chance there could be interest in him on the waiver wire, but it’s just as likely — if not more so — that he’ll be unclaimed and report back to Nashville.
  • MIL 2nd Baseman #2
Brice Turang is not in the starting lineup for the Brewers on Wednesday against the Astros.
The Brewers are facing left-hander Framber Valdez, so they’ll go with a more right-handed-heavy lineup with Vinny Capra at third base and Caleb Durbin shifting to second base. Brewers manager Pat Murphy noted that Turang was dealing with an illness, so it’s possible this is related.
  • MIL 2nd Baseman #21
Caleb Durbin is not in the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Giants.
Durbin will take a seat for the matinee against the Giants with Vinny Capra getting the start at third base and hitting eighth. In 25 plate appearances, Durbin has hit .261/.320/.435 since being promoted from Nashville.
  • MIL 2nd Baseman #63
Caleb Durbin went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in Tuesday’s game for Triple-A Nashville.
Durbin is now 5-for-18 (.278) with a home run and a steal in four games at Triple-A to begin the season. While that’s not exactly banging down the door for an MLB call-up, Oliver Dunn is 0-for-7 with four strikeouts in three starts at third base for the Brewers, and Vinny Capra is 2-for-12 with a home run in his three starts against left-handed pitching. If both Dunn and Capra continue to struggle, it may not be long before the Brewers give Durbin a shot to claim the third base job.
