Brandon McCarthy pitched a seven-inning shutout for Triple-A Charlotte yesterday.
He gave up three hits, walked none and struck out seven. McCarthy will be recalled in September and he’ll probably make a couple of starts while the White Sox get their veteran starters ready for the postseason. He’ll probably have some value in AL-only leagues.

Brandon McCarthy has been hired as a special assistant to Rangers general manager Jon Daniels.
McCarthy posted a 4.92 ERA and 65/21 K/BB ratio over 78 2/3 innings this past season with the Braves. The 35-year-old right-hander’s playing days are over.

Braves activated RHP Brandon McCarthy from the 60-day disabled list.
McCarthy’s last appearance in the majors game in June, as he battled a nagging knee issue. He previously announced that he will be retiring.

Manager Ozzie Guillen said Tuesday that Brandon McCarthy will not replace Mark Buehrle in the starting rotation.
Buehrle is 0-6 with a 9.61 ERA over his last seven starts. ''If that went through my mind, we would have done it already,’' Guillen said. ''I think those five guys we bring -- put it this way, if we throw those five guys from my starting rotation in the air, they won’t land. Somebody would pick them up.”

Brandon McCarthy pitched very well against the Orioles on Friday, allowing just two runs on five hits in his seven innings of work.
He struck out four and walked three on the evening. The win is McCarthy’s first of the season, and he now sits at 1-3 with a solid 3.23 ERA. He’ll look to carry over the momentum from this fine outing when he faces the Red Sox at Fenway next week.

Brandon McCarthy wasn’t sharp against a split-squad Cubs lineup Tuesday, allowing four runs -- two earned -- on five hits and three walks over four innings of work.
He struck out one. It’s not the outing McCarthy was hoping for in his final tuneup before Japan, but he has an excuse, as he was apparently dealing with a fingernail issue. He’ll have to go to a salon to have a fake one put on and should be fine for his first regular season start next week.

Brandon McCarthy struck out 10 in seven scoreless innings to defeat the Tigers on Saturday.
The shoulder scare isn’t looking so bad now. McCarthy has allowed more than two earned runs just once in eight starts this season, and he now has three wins in a row to show for it after opening the season 0-3. The 10 strikeouts tonight matched his career high.

Brandon McCarthy pitched six innings of two-run ball Wednesday in a no-decision against the Royals.
McCarthy has taken advantage of a kind early-season schedule to post a 2.50 ERA in three starts. With a 10/6 K/BB ratio, it doesn’t seem like he’s even really hit his stride yet. Last year, he had a 123/25 K/BB ratio in 25 starts.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin was “encouraged” by Brandon McCarthy’s bullpen session Thursday.
McCarthy had a start pushed back earlier this week due to soreness in his pitching shoulder. He is scheduled to be reevaluated Friday, but the current plan calls for him to start Saturday against the Tigers.

Brandon McCarthy (shoulder) declared himself ready to start Saturday after making it through a bullpen session Thursday with no issues.
“I didn’t feel anything today,” said McCarthy, who was scratched from a start earlier this week due to soreness in his throwing shoulder. “I felt fine, and it’s really not a concern at this point. I wasn’t mentally hung up, wasn’t worried about it. I pretty much knew what to expect, and unless something unexpected happened, I wasn’t going to be surprised. It went the way I wanted it to, and it just leaves me perfectly on course for Saturday.” While McCarthy should be good to go Saturday, he acknowledged that he’ll have to make it through his next couple of outings before he feels like he’s out of the woods physically.
