Brewers signed RHP Brian Bowles and C Chris Coste to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
Bowles, 27, was one of the better minor league free agents available. He’ll have a real chance of winning a spot in the Milwaukee bullpen after posting a 3.30 ERA in 24 relief appearances for the Blue Jays over the last three years. Coste is an offensive-minded catcher with a pretty good track record, but he’s 30 years old and he’s coming off a season ruined by injuries. He’ll almost certainly end up at Triple-A Indianapolis.
