Manager Carlos Tosca said Brian Bowles and Dan Reichert, both demoted recently when Lidle and Pete Walker came off the DL, would be recalled when rosters expand Sept. 1.
Neither will have any value in the bullpen in September.

Blue Jays optioned RHP Brian Bowles to Triple-A Syracuse.
Bowles pitched 1 1/3 innings in 17 days with the Jays.
  • COL Relief Pitcher
Blue Jays recalled RHP Brian Bowles from Triple-A Syracuse.
Bowles had a 1.06 ERA and eight saves in 14 appearances as Syracuse’s closer. If his control was better, he would probably be a decent setup man by now. As is, he’s mediocre.
  • COL Relief Pitcher
Blue Jays sent RHP Brian Bowles outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
Bowles has long been a successful reliever in the minors and had a 3.30 ERA in 24 relief appearances in the majors over the last three years, but the Blue Jays never took a liking to him. He’ll be a pretty good pickup as a minor league free agent.
  • COL Relief Pitcher
Brewers signed RHP Brian Bowles and C Chris Coste to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
Bowles, 27, was one of the better minor league free agents available. He’ll have a real chance of winning a spot in the Milwaukee bullpen after posting a 3.30 ERA in 24 relief appearances for the Blue Jays over the last three years. Coste is an offensive-minded catcher with a pretty good track record, but he’s 30 years old and he’s coming off a season ruined by injuries. He’ll almost certainly end up at Triple-A Indianapolis.
  • COL Relief Pitcher
Brewers reassigned RHP Brian Bowles and C Chris Coste to minor league camp.
Bowles will be a part of the Milwaukee bullpen at some point. The 27-year-old right-hander gave up three runs in seven innings this spring.

Pete Walker will be activated Saturday to replace Bowles on the roster.
  • COL Relief Pitcher
Blue Jays recalled RHP Brian Bowles from Triple-A Syracuse.
Bowles was in the majors for 2 1/2 weeks back in May, but he pitched just 1 1/3 innings. He’ll be used as a mop-up man for now.
  • COL Relief Pitcher
Blue Jays recalled RHP Brian Bowles from Triple-A Syracuse.
Bowles has been a closer in the minors, but the Blue Jays don’t think of him as much more than a middle reliever. No fantasy value.
