Morris

Morris didn’t sign after the Rays made him a third-round pick last year, instead electing for junior college. His fastball-curveball combo could make him a dominant reliever someday, but there’s also good reason to hope he’ll make it as a starter.

He was sent down to make room for Jeff Karstens’ return from the disabled list. Morris was just called up from the minors on Sunday and did not make an appearance. He’ll return to a 2.28 ERA with Indy.

He earned the promotion by posting a 2.28 ERA and 44/10 K/BB ratio over 43 1/3 innings for Indy. Morris will work the middle innings.

Morris registered a 2.67 ERA and 79/17 K/BB ratio in 81 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He will operate in a long relief role over the final three weeks.

Morris has a 3.45 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 15 2/3 major league innings this season. He’ll pitch in middle relief.

Morris has posted a cool 3.45 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 15 2/3 innings of relief this season for Pittsburgh. The right-hander will probably be back and forth all year.

Morris had a shot at a bullpen spot but posted a 5.14 ERA over seven spring appearances. He’ll provide depth at Triple-A.

He takes the roster spot of Chris Leroux, who was designated for assignment. A former first-round pick, Morris was terrific last season in his first full year as a reliever, posting a 2.67 ERA and 79/17 K/BB ratio over 81 Triple-A innings while also showing well in his brief time with the big club. He’ll work the middle innings.

Morris threw 41 pitches over three scoreless innings during his lone appearance with the club Monday. The Pirates wanted to add a fresh arm from the minors, so Vin Mazzaro got the call from the minors.

He is replacing Jonathan Sanchez on the Pirates’ active roster. Morris walked three over three scoreless innings in one appearance with the club earlier this month and figures to pitch in middle relief.
