Michael Busch hit a solo homer in a loss to the Rockies on Tuesday.
Busch crushed a 424-foot shot off Tomoyuki Sugano in the sixth inning, but it came with the Cubs trailing 7-1. He’s now homered seven times in 2026, while the solo roundtripper gives him 37 RBI in 67 games. It’s the first homer of the month of June for Busch, but he has picked up hits in six of his seven contests in the month. Overall the production has been disappointing, but there’s reason for optimism over the final 90-plus games of the campaign.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #53
Colin Rea was lit up for seven runs in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Rockies on Tuesday.
Rea allowed nine hits — two of those homers — and he walked three against two strikeouts. The right-hander gave up two in the first, three in the second, and two more in the third in an outing that saw the 35-year-old’s ERA bump up to 5.19 in the process. Matthew Boyd will be back soon from his knee injury, but for now, Rea is scheduled to start against the Giants on Sunday.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #16
Cubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed that Matthew Boyd (knee) will be activated from the injured list later this week.
Boyd figures to take the ball at some point against the Giants at Oracle Park this weekend. It’s a favorable matchup right out of the gate for the veteran southpaw after missing five weeks recovering from knee surgery. There’s some definite fantasy appeal in deeper mixed leagues despite some mixed results during a rehab start for Triple-A Iowa over the weekend.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #64
Cubs recalled RHP Tyler Ferguson from Triple-A Iowa.
Ferguson returns to the majors with Trent Thornton away from the team for a couple days on paternity leave. The 32-year-old was up with the Cubs last week but didn’t end up making an appearance before being sent back down.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #49
Cubs placed RHP Trent Thornton on the paternity list.
Thornton will be away from the club for a couple days on paternity leave. The 32-year-old has posted a strong 1.69 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 6/7 K/BB ratio across 16 innings of work for the Cubs since May 6.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #39
Cubs recalled RHP Ethan Roberts from Triple-A Iowa.
Roberts gets the call to rejoin Chicago’s bullpen with veteran starter Jameson Taillon hitting the injured list with a hamstring strain. The 28-year-old has posted a 1.96 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 14/7 K/BB ratio across 18 1/3 innings this season.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #50
Cubs placed RHP Jameson Taillon on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
No surprise here after Taillon was removed from Sunday’s start against the Giants with a left hamstring strain. Cubs manager Craig Counsell didn’t offer an exact timeline, but told reporters that the 34-year-old veteran starter will be out until after next month’s All-Star break.
  • CHC Right Fielder #6
Cubs activated INF/OF Matt Shaw from the 10-day injured list.
Shaw returns to Chicago’s outfield mix following a nearly three-week stint on the injured list with back tightness. The 24-year-old former top prospect simply hasn’t shown enough at the plate to envision an everyday role at the highest level, but the opportunity is certainly there with Moisés Ballesteros scuffling.
  • CHC Right Fielder #13
Cubs optioned OF Kevin Alcántara to Triple-A Iowa.
Alcántara went 1-for-10 at the dish during a 12-game stint with the Cubs. The 23-year-old top prospect heads back to the minors to wait for another opportunity at the highest level.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #16
Matthew Boyd (knee) is expected to return to the Cubs’ rotation before the end of the weekend.
Boyd threw five innings and allowed five runs during his rehab start Saturday for Triple-A Iowa while throwing 64-of-83 pitches for strikes. The 35-year-old has been limited to just five starts in 2026, and while he was shaky in those outing as seen in his 6.00 ERA, he offers some fantasy upside based on his success in 2025 and previous campaigns.
