The Marlins kept the long reliever in Renyel Pinto rather than Resop, a one- or two-inning guy. Resop will get another chance within a few weeks.

Resop allowed one run in five innings during his latest stint in the Florida pen. He could be back next time the team needs an extra reliever.

Resop finished with a 3.81 ERA in 49 2/3 innings, which is pretty good for an Albuquerque pitcher. He might get a chance to work in a setup role if he impresses over the next couple of weeks.

Hanrahan will be excused for a minimum of three days to attend the funeral and spend time with his family. The 30-year-old right-hander has posted a pedestrian 4.66 ERA in 9 2/3 innings this year and blew his first save on Tuesday night, but he’s in no danger of losing his job. Save chances this weekend could go to Jason Grilli, Juan Cruz, Tony Watson or Chris Resop.

Resop was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The 29-year-old right-hander posted a 4.82 ERA and 79/30 K/BB ratio over 69 2/3 innings last season. He’ll set-up for closer Joel Hanrahan again in 2012.

Resop, a dependable middle reliever, posted a 3.91 ERA and 46/24 K/BB ratio over 73 2/3 innings with the Pirates in 2012. He’ll be a welcomed addition to an already strong A’s bullpen.

Hideki Okajima has been called up from Triple-A Sacramento to replace him on the active roster. Resop has an ugly 6.00 ERA and 13/10 K/BB ratio over 18 innings this season. He’s making $1.35 million, so it’s likely he’ll pass through waivers.

Resop was designated for assignment by Oakland last week and passed through waivers. The right-hander had a 6.00 ERA and 13/10 K/BB ratio in 18 frames with the A’s.

Resop, who was acquired from the Pirates in the offseason, posted a 3.91 ERA and 46/24 K/BB ratio over 73 2/3 innings in 2012. A dependable middle reliever, he should be a welcomed addition to the Athletics’ bullpen.

He holds a June 15 out-clause in his contract, so the Braves can either promote him to the major leagues, trade him or give him his outright release. Resop, 27, is 4-1 with a 2.07 ERA over nine starts with Triple-A Gwinnett this season. He tallied a 5.89 ERA over 16 relief appearances with the Braves last season.
