White Sox optioned RHPs Clevelan Santeliz, Freddy Dolsi, Lucas Harrell, Jhonny Nunez and Brian Omogrosso to Triple-A Charlotte; outrighted RHPs Brandon Hynick and Brandon Hynick to Triple-A Charlotte; optioned RHP Santo Luis to Double-A Birmingham; reassigned C Cole Armstrong to minor-league camp.
Santeliz, 23, was a starter until last season, but thrived with a move to the pen, posting an 0.96 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 40 relief appearances with Double-A Birmingham. While the ERA is impressive, his command was still very shaky as a reliever -- 35 walks in 56 1/3 innings -- casting some doubt upon his long-term prospects. He was recently ranked as the organization’s No. 9 prospect by Baseball America.

Red Sox signed RHP Clevelan Santeliz to a minor league contract.
After posting a 0.96 ERA and 8.3 K/9 rate in Double-A in 2009, Santeliz struggled a bit in 2010 in his first year at Triple-A, holding a 4.67 ERA and 8.3 K/9 rate. Walks are an issue, but Santeliz is still only 24. It’s a nice depth addition.

White Sox designated RHP Clevelan Santeliz for assignment.
Santeliz was cleared in an effort to create some space on the 40-man roster. And on his 24th birthday, no less. Santeliz regressed significantly this season, posting a 4.65 ERA over 36 relief appearances with Triple-A Charlotte. His command continues to be an issue.
