Heuer

Heuer only pitched 4 2/3 innings in the big leagues last year and had not thrown an MLB inning since 2021 prior to that. The 29-year-old had a 3.14 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 62/17 K/BB ratio in 48 2/3 innings at Triple-A last year and feels like a decent bet to make the Guardians’ bullpen.

Heuer had been pitching for Triple-A Toledo after giving up two runs in 3 1/3 innings over two appearances for the Tigers last month. He could quickly surface in another team’s pen, but he won’t be postseason eligible.

The Tigers acquired Heuer from the Rangers for cash on July 31st, and the 29-year-old has allowed two runs on three hits in 3 1/3 innings in two appearances for the Tigers so far. He will head to Triple-A with Sawyer Gipson-Long being activated from the injured list.

Heuer was acquired by the Tigers at the deadline for cash considerations from the Rangers, and the 29-year-old will get a chance to pitch an an MLB game for the first time since 2021 as a middle-inning option.

Heuer hasn’t pitched in a big league game since 2021, and there’s no guarantee that he’ll get in one with the Tigers. The 29-year-old provides organizational depth for the remainder of 2025.

Heuer returns to the minors with Kumar Rocker coming off the injured list to start Wednesday’s showdown against the Rays at Steinbrenner Field. The 28-year-old righty was only with the Rangers for a couple days this week and didn’t end up getting into a game. He hasn’t officially pitched in the big leagues since back in 2021.

Heuer hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since making 65 appearances between the Cubs and White Sox back in 2021. He’ll provide the Rangers relief corps with some extra depth with Nathan Eovaldi landing on the injured list with triceps fatigue.

It’s likely the deal includes an invite to spring training, but no official word just yet. The 28-year-old showed promise not long ago, but has dealt with injuries that have limited him to just 12 2/3 innings over his last three campaigns. If healthy, he could compete for a bullpen spot in the Cactus League, but he’ll need to be added to the 40-man roster to pitch for the Rangers.

Heuer was non-tendered last November by the Cubs after undergoing surgery back in June to repair a fractured right elbow. The 27-year-old righty holds a serviceable 3.56 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 81/32 K/BB ratio across 91 innings (86 appearances) in the majors since 2020. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2021 campaign due to injury.

Heuer underwent surgery in June to repair a fractured right elbow and hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He’d be a lottery ticket for another organization following so much missed time.
