Blue Jays signed 2012 first-round pick OF D.J. Davis.
Davis was the No. 17 overall pick in last Monday’s First-Year Player Draft. Jim Callis of Baseball America reports that he’ll receive $1.75 million, which is a hair under the recommended slot value of $2 million. The 17-year-old Davis is highly regarded for his speed and athleticism, but he is still quite raw offensively.

Blue Jays selected high-school OF D.J. Davis with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2012 draft.
An elite runner and athlete, Davis is nevertheless extremely raw as a hitter. Three weeks shy of his 18th birthday, he’s also one of the youngest players in this year’s draft class. He has monster upside, however, and will be one of the Jays’ corner outfielders for years to come if everything breaks right. He’ll obviously need years on the farm.

Blue Jays OF prospect D.J. Davis tied a team-record with eight RBI Monday in a win for Low-A Lansing.
Davis needed a triple for the cycle but he popped out in his last at-bat. The 2012 first-round pick has raised his average 11 points by hitting .342 over his last 10 games. Davis has trimmed his strikeout rate from 33.8 percent last year to 24.4 this season. Despite having 80-grade speed, Davis is only 9-for-15 on stolen base attempts this season.
