Danny Farquhar has retired from his playing career and will become a minor league pitching instructor with the White Sox.
Farquhar deserves a ton of credit for his comeback after he nearly died from a brain hemorrhage last April. However, he was released by the Yankees back in June and admitted Thursday that he was “really far behind” other pitchers. The 32-year-old had a nice career, posting a 3.93 ERA and striking out well over a batter per inning over parts of seven seasons.

    Yankees released RHP Danny Farquhar.
Farquhar got off to a late start in 2019 after suffering a brain hemorrhage last year while a member of the White Sox. He had allowed seven earned runs through just three innings of work at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Farquhar, who suffered a brain hemorrhage from a ruptured aneurysm with the White Sox last April, only appeared in three Grapefruit League contests with the Yankees, registering a 27.00 ERA and 4.50 WHIP across two innings. He’ll continue to get his work in on the minor league side of camp.

Danny Farquhar (head) has been medically cleared to return to baseball activities.
The 31-year-old hurler suffered a brain hemorrhage from a ruptured aneurysm while in the White Sox’ dugout during an April 20 game. It’s fantastic news that he’ll be able to return so quickly after such a scary incident. Now he just needs to find another team willing to give him a shot, as he’s testing the free agent waters this winter.

Danny Farquhar has elected free agency.
He was outrighted off the White Sox’ 40-man roster and decided to test out the free agent waters. Farquhar is still working his way back from a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm, although he resumed throwing a few months ago and hopes to pitch in 2019.

Yankees outrighted RHP Danny Farquhar to Double-A Trenton.
Farquhar was claimed off waivers by the Yanks from the A’s on Tuesday and designated for assignment a few days later. Because he cleared waivers, New York can stash him as organizational depth without having to burn a 40-man roster spot on him. The 25-year-old right-hander only has three major league appearances under his belt, but he has a 3.20 ERA and 275 strikeouts over 269 2/3 innings in the minors.

It’s Farquhar’s second stint with Oakland after he was acquired from the Blue Jays in the Rajai Davis deal. He was previously pitching at the Double-A level with Toronto despite his 2.99 ERA in the minors.
