David Thompson hit a three-run homer to give the Mets all of their runs in a 3-3 tie against the Astros on Monday.
The Mets pulled off the tie despite being outhit 12-2 in this one. Thompson, a 2015 fourth-round pick out of the University of Miami (FL), was limited to just 22 games in Triple-A last year, hitting .258/.329/.359. He offers a fair amount of pop and a decent glove at third, but he’s going to need a big year in Triple-A to put himself back on the map.

Mets 3B prospect David Thompson plated five runs Tuesday in a win for Low-A Columbia.
He sparked a late rally as the Fireflies stole a 10-9 victory from Hickory. Thompson was making his return from a pulled hamstring. Even after sitting out for two weeks, Thompson still leads the South Atlantic League with 54 RBI. He’s also fourth in the league with 21 doubles in 56 contests. The 22-year-old should earn a promotion to High-A St. Lucie before the year is over.
