2008 13th-round pick Dexter Carter was traded from the White Sox to the Padres in a four-player deal.
Carter, an ODU product, is shaping up as one of the biggest steals in last year’s draft. He was 6-2 with a 3.13 ERA, 103 H and 143/32 K/BB in 118 IP for low Single-A Kannapolis. His fastball-curve combination could make him a major force in relief if he doesn’t come up with the changeup he’ll need to become a starter for the Padres.
