Twins signed INF Doug Bernier to a minor league contract

It’s not clear if the deal includes a spring training invite. Bernier was used primarily as a utility infielder the last two seasons with the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate and hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2008.

Yankees reassigned 1B Shelley Duncan, INF Doug Bernier, INF Justin Leone, OF Todd Linden, OF John Rodriguez, C P.J. Pilittere, C Chris Stewart and RHP David Robertson to minor league camp.

Duncan hit .344/.417/.594 in 32 at-bats, but there’s no room for him on the Yankees with the team expected to keep five outfielders. Leone failed to get into the mix at third base while going 5-for-36 with 13 strikeouts this spring. Robertson, who allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings and struck out 10, could be one of the first relievers called up by the team.
