    Doug Fister’s agent, Page Odle, said Wednesday that his client has decided to retire from baseball.
    “He’s been contemplating this for a couple months,” Odle said in a telephone interview. “The main reason is that he wants to start a new chapter in his life. This is 100 percent family driven. He’s really excited about being a dad and husband. He’s very much a family-oriented guy.” Fister, 35, posted a 3.72 ERA over parts of 10 big league seasons for the Mariners, Tigers, Nationals, Astros, Red Sox and Rangers.

    Verlander threw just 25 pitches before Friday’s series opener was suspended due to rain. Doug Fister will now pitch when play resumes Saturday while Max Scherzer starts Game 2 on Sunday. Verlander will only pitch once during the series, but the silver lining is that he could be lined up to pitch Game 1 if the Tigers are fortunate enough to advance to the ALCS.

    Doug Fister left Saturday’s game against the Red Sox in the fourth inning with an apparent injury to his side.
    Fister landed awkwardly and grabbed his left side after delivering ball two to Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the top of the fourth inning. He allowed three hits over 3 2/3 scoreless innings before exiting. Stay tuned for an update.

    Fister left Saturday’s game against the Red Sox after feeling a tug when delivering ball two to Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the top of the fourth inning. The 28-year-old right-hander allowed three hits over 3 2/3 scoreless innings before exiting. He could be headed for the disabled list.

    Fister threw around 50 pitches in a bullpen session Thursday without discomfort. He’s on track to rejoin the Tigers’ rotation in early May, but Duane Below will fill his spot in the rotation for now.
