White Sox acquired OF Dylan Campbell and INF Jose Colmenares from the Phillies for OF Derek Hill.

Campbell, 23, was originally a fourth-round selection by the Dodgers from the 2023 draft class. He has really struggled offensively at Double-A Reading this season, slashing .216/.281/.412 with seven homers, 31 RBI and nine stolen bases in 218 plate appearances. He’ll add minor league outfield depth for the White Sox.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Phillies are acquiring CF Derek Hill and international bonus money from the White Sox for OF prospect Dylan Campbell and INF prospect Jose Colmenares.

Doesn’t sound like it’s great news for the Phillies on Adolis García’s shoulder injury. Hill was pushed out of a role with the White Sox by the promotion of Braden Montgomery and was a potential DFA candidate with Everson Pereira slated to come off the injured list soon, so it’s good work by the White Sox to get prospects for him.

Phillies reassigned INFs Carson DeMartini, Aroon Escobar, and Bryan Rincon and OF Dylan Campbell to minor league camp.

None of them is older than 23 years old or has played any minor league ball above Double-A, so they were highly unlikely to force their way onto the 40-man roster. Campbell is the team’s 19th-ranked prospect, according to FanGraph’s rankings, while Rincon ranks 28th, and Escobar ranks 4th. Escobar is just 21 years old and should begin this season in Double-A.

Phillies acquired OF Dylan Campbell from the Dodgers for international bonus pool money.

The Dodgers needed to acquire some extra international bonus pool funds to give Roki Sasaki a $6.5 million signing bonus on Friday and the Phillies were there to take advantage of the situation. Campbell, 22, hit .251/.331/.372 with 10 homers, 53 RBI and 42 stolen bases across 493 plate appearances at High-A Great Lakes in 2024.

Kiley McDonald of ESPN reports that the Dodgers are trading minor league outfielder Dylan Campbell to the Phillies for international bonus pool money.

No word yet on how much the Dodgers will receive in return, but they needed to grow their pool in order to give right-hander Roki Sasaki everything that they possibly could before earning his commitment on Friday. Campbell, 22, had a nice season in High-A ball in 2024, slashing .251/.331/.372 with 10 homers, 53 RBI and 42 stolen bases over 115 games.
