Garces

Garces floundered at Triple-A El Paso (Padres affiliate) for the entire 2016 season, finishing with a 4.41 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 98/39 K/BB ratio in 114 1/3 innings. He’ll operate as organizational depth for Miami in 2017.

Dale Thayer has been activated from the disabled list in a corresponding roster move. Garces has a 3.81 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 18/13 K/BB ratio in 37 1/3 innings this season.

He was sent down to make room for Ian Kennedy. Garces pitched well during his six-game stint with the Padres, allowing just one earned run in 5 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old lefty will probably spend most of 2015 bouncing between El Paso and San Diego.

Garces pitched well for El Paso after getting demoted shortly before the All-Star break, posting a 2.25 ERA in 16 innings. He’ll take the roster spot left by Marcos Mateo (strained neck).

It will be a “bullpen day” for San Diego, as Garces has essentially been a one-inning reliever. He owns a 5.00 ERA over 39 relief appearances this season and obviously should be avoided in fantasy leagues.

The 25-year-old southpaw has already appeared in 34 games for the Padres this season, registering a 4.94 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 20/15 K/BB ratio over 31 innings. He’ll continue to function as a situational left-hander for the Padres.

Garces holds a 4.94 ERA over 34 relief appearances with the big club this season. He’ll return in September, if not before.

Garces struck out two and walked two over his short appearance. Both runs came home via a two-run homer by Joc Pederson in the second inning. Mostly a bullpen pitcher by trade, the 25-year-old southpaw finishes out the 2015 season holding a 5.21 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 30/22 K/BB ratio over 38 innings.

Garces is being called back up to fill the spot vacated by Brandon Morrow (shoulder). During his six-game stretch with the Padres, he allowed just one run in 5 2/3 innings. Expect Garces to yo-yo back and forth between El Paso and San Diego this season, as he offers a solid bullpen arm.

Garces was non-tendered by the team at the tender deadline but the two sides obviously had interest in a reunion. Garces will look to improve on the 5.21 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 30/22 K/BB ratio he posted over 40 appearances with the Padres last year.
