Phillies acquired C Gabriel Lino and RHP Kyle Simon from the Phillies for DH Jim Thome.
Lino, a 19-year-old Venezuelan, has batted just .224/.326/.340 in 138 career minor league games. He’s doubtful to become a major prospect, but the Phillies probably weren’t expecting to get much for Thome.

Cardinals signed C Gabriel Lino to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Lino, 23, hit .236/.312/.357 with five homers between Low- and Double-A in 2016 in the Phillies organization. He gives the club another glove to throw to in spring training.

Phillies prospect C Gabriel Lino has been promoted to Triple-A Lehigh from Double-A Reading.
The 22-year-old backstop is moving up to the minor’s highest level after batting .266/.333/.431 with 12 extra-base hits over 32 games in the Eastern League. Lino has made strides at the plate this season but will defense will always be his calling card, as he’s posted an excellent 39% caught-stealing rate in the last three years. The Venezuela native could see time in the major leagues this season in a backup role.

Phillies reassigned C Gabriel Lino to minor league camp.
Lino was holding down a spot while Carlos Ruiz was away for WBC qualifier action. Acquired in the Jim Thome deal back in 2012, the 22-year-old batted .234/.277/.329 over 85 games between Double- and Triple-A last season.
