Nationals signed first baseman-third baseman George Arias to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 32-year-old Arias is back in the U.S. after hitting 159 homers in five seasons in Japan. He’s hit .237/.278/.371 in 480 at-bats over four years in the majors. Since he’s now more of a first baseman than a third baseman, he probably isn’t going to be very useful. The Nationals already have Wil Cordero as a right-handed bat off the bench, so they won’t need him.
