Velazquez

Velazquez is now a minor league free agent and is allowed to sign with any organization. The 32-year-old hit .328/.399/.466 at the Triple-A level this season.

Velazquez appeared in four games with the Angels last season, but spent the majority of the year at the Triple-A level, batting .328/.399/.466 with eight home runs, 58 RBI and an .865 OPS. He’ll be a longshot to make the Giants’ Opening Day roster.

Velazquez spent just two games with the Fish, going 1-for-8 with a strikeout. The Marlins will activate Emilio Bonifacio from the disabled list on Sunday morning.

Velazquez cleared waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 33-year-old went 1-for-8 with a strikeout in two games with the Fish. He returns to a 314/.392/.383 batting line at the Triple-A level this year.

He’ll take the place of the injured Nick Green (thumb) on the active roster. Velazquez, 32, was hitting .314/.392/.383 with three home runs, five stolen bases and a .775 OPS in 101 games at the Triple-A level this year, but he can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Velazquez appeared in 19 games with the Marlins this season, batting .232 (13-for-56) with a double, two RBI and a .496 OPS. The 33-year-old journeyman is nothing more than organizational depth.

Velazquez will give the Marlins some infield depth over the final few weeks. He went 1-for-8 with a strikeout in two games with the Fish earlier this season.

This is the first time that the 32-year-old journeyman infielder has received more than eight at-bats in a major league season. He’s held his own to this point, hitting .270 (10-for-37) with one RBI. His RBI double off Tommy Hanson in the fourth inning was the first extra-base hit of his MLB career.

Velazquez opened the 2013 season with the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate but batted just .173 with a .426 OPS in 27 games there. The 33-year-old infielder is a .236/.253/.250 career hitter in the major leagues.

The deal includes a spring training invite. Velazquez appeared in 19 games with the Marlins this season, batting .232 (13-for-56) with a double, two RBI and a .496 OPS. The 32-year-old will function as organizational depth with New York.
