After missing most of the season with a left ankle injury, Jays catcher Greg Myers will be invited to spring training as a non-roster player.
Myers has the option of looking elsewhere for a job or he could retire. If he does choose to stay with Toronto, the Jays see him competing with Guillermo Quiroz and Kevin Cash for backup duties behind Gregg Zaun, another free agent the team hopes to re-sign.

The Blue Jays have offered Greg Myers a minor league deal for 2005.
The Jays hope to re-sign Gregg Zaun and then maybe let Myers back him up. If Zaun heads elsewhere, Myers could split time with Kevin Cash until Guillermo Quiroz is ready.

Greg Myers is still at least 2-3 weeks away from particpating in any baseball related activities.
He severely sprained his left ankle on April 26th, and has only been able to ride a stationary bike to date. Myers will likely not be back with the Blue Jays before the end of June.

Blue Jays re-signed catcher Greg Myers to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Myers will receive a $700,000 salary if he makes the Blue Jays, and he could earn an additional $50,000 in bonuses. There’s a real chance that the team will carry him as a backup catcher and send both Kevin Cash and Guillermo Quiroz to Triple-A. Of course, they’ll still need a starter.

Greg Myers doubled, singled and drove in two runs today.
Myers is hitting .340, which looks like one of the biggest flukes of the first two months of the season. The power is real, but Myers has hit in the .220s each of the last three years. Don’t expect him and Tom Wilson to remain Toronto’s No. 5 hitters all season.

Greg Myers had three hits against Boston Friday, including his sixth home run of the season.
Myers is currently hitting a surprising .327, but it is highly unlikely he’ll maintain this pace. In the league since 1987, Myers has a career average of .252.

Greg Myers went 2-for-3 with two runs scored today against the Pirates.
His fourth and fifth hits in 26 spring at-bats. Myers has to show something this week to beat out Ken Huckaby for a job.

Greg Myers went 0-for-3 yesterday and is hitting .095 (2-for-21) this spring.
Myers has 10 strikeouts in 21 at-bats and is not a lock to make the team. He missed the majority of last season with an ankle injury.
  • TOR Catcher
Greg Myers has beaten out Ken Huckaby for a job Gregg Zaun’s backup.
For at least the first few months, Myers should get enough starts against righties to be a decent second catcher in AL-only leagues. He may eventually be forced into retirement by Guillermo Quiroz.

Greg Myers, who left Saturday’s game with a bruised forearm, singled as a pinch-hiiter today.
    Myers remains day-to-day.
