Gregorio Petit has been hired as manager of the Astros’ Double-A affiliates in Corpus Christi.
Petit did not appear at any level of professional baseball in 2019 after getting released from Phillies camp in late March. The 35-year-old infielder finishes his playing days with a .249/.294/.343 career batting line in 197 major league games. He suited up for the Athletics, Yankees, Angels, Twins, and Astros.

  • PHI 2nd Baseman #40
Gregorio Petit homered twice and drove in four runs Wednesday for Single-A Stockton.
Petit, who has moved back to shortstop from second base with Cliff Pennington out, is batting .256/.309/.382 with 21 steals as a 21-year-old in the California League. He’s probably going to need a second year at Stockton in 2006, but in part because he projects as a very good defender, he’s a solid prospect.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman #40
Indians signed INF Gregorio Petit to a minor league contract.
Petit inked a minor league deal with the Padres last offseason, but missed the entire 2011 season with a knee injury. The 27-year-old infielder has appeared in 25 major league games with the A’s and owns an underwhelming .265/.322/.365 batting line in the minors. This is strictly an organizational depth move.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman #40
Padres signed INF Gregorio Petit to a minor league contract.
He also gets a spring training invite. Petit, 28, had a .260/.320/.403 batting line with the Indians’ Triple-A this past season and hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2009. He figures to serve as minor league depth.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman #40
Astros signed INF Gregorio Petit to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Petit spent all of last season at Triple-A with the Padres, batting .292/.344/.380 over 134 games. He’ll function as organizational depth.
  • LAA Third Base Coach #0
Yunel Escobar (wrist) is not in Monday’s lineup against the Tigers.
Escobar bruised his right wrist on Sunday and will get a day of rest. Gregorio Petit will start at third base Monday while Kole Calhoun will bat leadoff.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman #40
Gregorio Petit hit his first career grand slam Monday off the Astros’ Tony Sipp.
It was Petit’s fourth homer in 294 career at-bats since he debuted with the A’s in 2008. His two homers this year have both come against former teams; the first versus the Yankees (who he played with last year) and tonight’s versus Houston. There should be less playing time available for him in the Angels infield now with Andrelton Simmons back, but as desperate as the team is for offense, anyone with a hot hand will get to play somewhere.
