    According to Baseball America’s Ben Badler, the Giants have signed Dominican outfielder Gustavo Cabrera.
    The 16-year-old, ranked fifth among this year’s international prospects by Baseball America, got a bonus of $1.3 million. He has great tools and athleticism, and is a nice snag for the San Francisco front office.

    Cabrera, 22, was signed to a $1.3 million bonus out of the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2012. Not long after, he suffered a devastating wrist injury after falling on a piece of glass that nearly cost him his hand. He played in 16 games in short-season Salem-Keizer in 2017.
  • Giants prospect Gustavo Cabrera suffered a serious off-field wrist injury this weekend in the Dominican.
    According to Baseball America’s Ben Badler, Cabrera “suffered severe lacerations in his wrist” after falling onto a piece of glass and required emergency surgery. Badler saw pictures of the wounds and describes them as “graphic.” Cabrera, a promising 17-year-old outfielder, signed with the Giants for $1.3 million in July 2012. He might have to sit out the entire 2014 season.
