Mariners reassigned RHPs Cory Abbott, Heath Hembree, Jimmy Joyce, Sean Poppen and Travis Kuhn, LHP Holden Laws and INF Rangel Ravelo to minor league camp.
As is often the case at this time of year, there were no real surprises among this first group of cuts for the Mariners. Abbott appeared in just one Cactus League game, issuing three walks and giving up two earned runs in his lone inning of work. He’ll begin the season as extra bullpen depth for the M’s at Triple-A Tacoma.

Mariners signed RHP Heath Hembree to a minor league contract.
The 35-year-old veteran tossed 1 1/3 innings for the Rays last season but he also spent time with the Tigers organization in their upper minors. He’ll likely begin the season at Triple-A Tacoma and serve as organizational depth for Seattle.

    Tigers released RHP Heath Hembree.
The 34-year-old right-hander signed a minor league deal with the Tigers at the start of May after he had been refused an outright assignment from the Rays. Hembree made just six appearances at Triple-A Toledo where he posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 6/2 K/BB ratio across six innings. He’ll likely latch on elsewhere on a minor league pact.

Tigers signed RHP Heath Hembree to a minor league contract.
Hembree elected free agency last week after being designated for assignment by the Rays and going unclaimed on waivers. The 34-year-old right-hander, who has made 358 career relief appearances in the majors dating back to 2013, gives the Tigers some extra relief depth at Triple-A Toledo.

  • Relief Pitcher #53
Heath Hembree has elected to become a free agent.
Hembree cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Rays earlier this week. The 34-year-old was off to a nice start in Triple-A prior to his call-up and will try to find a better situation elsewhere.

  • Relief Pitcher #53
Rays designated RHP Heath Hembree for assignment.
Hembree was up for a day and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. He was off to a nice start in the minors, too, so some team in need of bullpen innings might give him a claim.

  • Relief Pitcher #53
Rays selected the contract of RHP Heath Hembree from Triple-A Durham.
Hembree gives the Rays some extra bullpen depth heading into Tuesday’s showdown against the Astros. The 34-year-old journeyman right-hander made 36 relief appearances last season between the Dodgers and Pirates.

  • Relief Pitcher #53
Rays reassigned RHP’s Heath Hembree and Colten Brewer and INF Tristan Gray to minor league camp.
Hembree and Brewer are among the final cuts for the Rays as they finalize their season-opening roster. The pair of veteran relievers figure to head to Triple-A Durham as extra organizational depth.

  • Relief Pitcher #53
Rays signed RHP Heath Hembree to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 33-year-old hurler posted a miserable 7.36 ERA and 1.96 WHIP over 22 innings between the Dodgers and Pirates this season, but has proven to be a reliable late-inning arm in the past. He’ll fight for a spot in the Rays’ Opening Day bullpen.

Heath Hembree has elected free agency.
The right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Dodgers earlier in the week. He passed through waivers unclaimed and opted to explore the open market rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 33-year-old hurler posted a miserable 7.36 ERA and 1.96 WHIP over 22 innings between the Dodgers and Pirates this season.
