The Royals are expected to recall second baseman Johnny Giavotella from Triple-A Omaha.
The team is holding off on an announcement until he arrives from Sacramento, so if his flight runs into any delays, an official roster move may not happen until Friday. Giavotella, 24, is hitting .331/.408/.504 with five homers, 25 RBI and a .912 OPS over 152 plate appearances at the Triple-A level this season. He’ll be worth considering in deeper mixed leagues if he is given regular playing time at second base, but Chris Getz hasn’t exactly played himself out of the job. The corresponding roster move isn’t yet known, but Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star notes that left-hander Jonathan Sanchez has been dealing with biceps tendinitis.
  • WSH 2nd Baseman
Royals purchased the contract of INF Irving Falu from Triple-A Omaha.
Falu was batting .306/.346/.403 with six stolen bases through 21 games this season at the Triple-A level. The 28-year-old infielder has never appeared in the majors and is doubtful to hold any sort of fantasy value.
  • MIL Third Base Coach
Yuniesky Betancourt (ankle) will be shut down for 10 days.
Betancourt was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a high ankle sprain and will likely need to miss more than the minimum. The 30-year-old infielder is batting .280/.333/.420 with one home run and three RBI in 54 plate appearances this season. Chris Getz figures to get most of the playing time at second base during his absence, but Irving Falu was added to the active roster Thursday.
  • WSH 2nd Baseman
Irving Falu went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI in Sunday’s loss to the Twins.
The utility infielder was making just his second start since being recalled from Triple-A Omaha on May 20. He doubled home two runs in the sixth before singling home two more in the ninth. Falu doesn’t play enough to be worth a look in even the deepest of AL-only leagues.
  • WSH 2nd Baseman
Royals recalled INF Irving Falu from Triple-A Omaha.
The Royals optioned right-hander Louis Coleman to Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding roster move. Falu is hitting .326 (14-for-43) in 12 games at the major league level this year. He’ll back up Yuniesky Betancourt at second base while Chris Getz (leg) is on the disabled list.
  • CWS General Manager
Chris Getz left Monday’s game in the fifth inning after aggravating a bruised rib.
Getz went 1-for-2 before being replaced with Irving Falu at second base. He originally injured the rib in a collision at first base with Orioles’ infielder Chris Davis last week. Stay tuned for an update on his status.
  • WSH 2nd Baseman
Royals optioned INF Irving Falu to Triple-A Omaha.
Falu appeared in 15 games with the Royals as a utility infielder but is no longer needed with Chris Getz returning from the disabled list. He’ll resume an organizational depth role in the minors.
  • WSH 2nd Baseman
Royals optioned INF Irving Falu to Triple-A Omaha.
He batted .326/.326/.442 over 43 at-bats, but there’s no room for him on the roster with Yuniesky Betancourt back in action. Falu returns to a .306/.346/.403 with six stolen bases at Omaha.
  • CWS General Manager
Chris Getz (ribs) is unlikely to return to the lineup this weekend.
“I got through the night pretty good, but it’s still sore in the front and the back of the chest,” said Getz, who hasn’t played since leaving Wednesday’s game. “It’s still day-to-day.” The Royals face two left-handed starters over the weekend, so it’s a good opportunity for Getz to continue to rest before hopefully returning to action early next week. Johnny Giovotella and Irving Falu will handle second base.
  • WSH 2nd Baseman
Royals recalled INF Irving Falu from Triple-A Omaha.
Falu has batted .321/.333/.434 over 15 games in a couple stints with the Royals this season. He’ll provide infield depth.
