Reds re-signed LHP Jacob Heatherly to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 25-year-old southpaw didn’t pitch at all during the 2022 season due to injury, but rebounded strongly in 2023 — compiling a 2.72 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and a 91/53 K/BB ratio over 53 innings between Single-A Daytona, High-A Dayton and Double-A Chattanooga. He’ll add pitching depth for the Reds in the upper minors.

Reds LHP prospect Jacob Heatherly fired five scoreless innings with five strikeouts for Low-A Dayton on Monday.
Heatherly allowed just two hits, and he didn’t walk anyone. A third-round pick in 2017 out of Cullman HS in Alabama, Heatherly has flashed impressive stuff at times for the Reds, but the 20-year-old hasn’t shown much consistency. Fortunately, at that age, there’s time. His fastball gets up to 96 mph, and he complements that pitch with a slider that flashes plus. Strike-throwing has been a problem and the stuff isn’t always that good, but again, there’s time. If you’re looking for a deep sleeper, you should keep an eye on Heatherly.
