The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster. Wilson is 3-for-20 at the plate this season for the A’s and Astros.

This move clears out a 26-man roster spot for Alex Bregman, who is back from the IL on Wednesday. Wilson has slashed just .150/.190/.300 in 21 plate appearances this year between Oakland and Houston.

Wilson was claimed off waivers from the Athletics earlier this week. He’ll provide some infield depth.

Wilson was designated for assignment by the A’s over the weekend. The 31-year-old was hitting .288/.385/.630 with 14 homers and 46 RBI in 49 games at Triple-A Las Vegas this season and makes for a solid depth addition.

It’s been a rough week or Wilson who was optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, and now he’s booted from the 40-man roster as well. It’ll be Wilson’s major league debut. The longtime Cardinals prospect is 30 now, and he spent most of 2019 in Korea. He was hitting .288/.385/.630 for Las Vegas, so it’s worth seeing if he might be an upgrade over Chad Pinder in a utility role. He’ll be a weaker defender in the outfield, but he should be a better hitter.

Wilson picked up one hit in seven at-bats while with the A’s. He gets sent down to Triple-A to make room for the recently-acquired Starling Marte.

The 30-year-old never had much of a shot to win a roster spot. Wilson will provide infield depth in the minors.

Wilson has played eight seasons in the minors and is still looking for his first big league shot. The 30-year-old is merely organizational depth.

Fellow infield prospect Patrick Wisdom also homered and drove in four runs in the game. Those two are both probably going to see time at third base with Triple-A Memphis this year, with Wilson primarily playing second base. Both have been steady performers while climbing through the ranks, but they’re in need of big seasons in 2016 if they hope to be looked at as future regulars.
