Bulger

The Angels needed some bullpen help after Friday’s massacre. Bulger had a 1.53 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings for Salt Lake. He’ll pitch in the middle innings.

Bulger gave up three runs in 1 2/3 innings in his lone appearance for the Angels. He’ll get another chance later on, maybe in place of Esteban Yan.

Bulger was cut loose by the Twins last week after allowing 10 earned runs in four innings this spring. He’ll provide depth at Triple-A.

Bulger yielded 10 earned runs in four innings this spring in a disastrous showing in the Grapefruit League. He’ll act as organizational relief depth this season.

Bulger was reassigned to minor league camp a few weeks ago and has now been cut from the Twins altogether. The 33-year-old right-hander allowed a whopping 10 earned runs in four innings this spring.

We assume he’ll also get an invite to spring training. Bulger, who turns 33 in December, appeared in five games with the Angels this season and has a 4.33 ERA and 138/75 K/BB ratio over 133 innings in the big leagues. He has regularly posted high strikeout totals, but has a very difficult time commanding the strike zone.

Bulger has been limited to four starts at Single-A Lancaster this season.

Bulger has been sidelined because of soreness in his upper right forearm.

Bulger, who was acquired from Arizona for Alberto Callaspo two years ago, is back in the majors for the first time since May 2006. The 28-year-old had a 3.76 ERA in 49 appearances for Salt Lake.

Bulger had been shut down in late August for 10 days with a separate shoulder problem, so the Angels are being cautious here. The 30-year old has a 3.56 ERA in 65 2/3 innings on the year, developing into one of Mike Scioscia’s most trusted relievers. He should be fine for the postseason.
