Athletics acquired RHP Jeferson Mejia from the Diamondbacks for INF Adam Rosales.

Mejia, 22, has a 5.90 ERA and 35/25 K/BB ratio over 29 innings this season between Low-A Hillsboro and Class A Kane County. He’ll provide some relief depth in the minors.

Diamondbacks acquired RHPs Jeferson Mejia and Zack Godley from the Cubs for C Miguel Montero.

Mejia, 20, pitched in rookie ball this past season while posting a 2.48 ERA and 45/17 K/BB ratio in 40 innings across two starts and 10 relief appearances. He has a good arm and the potential to be an effective starter, but he’s still a long way from making an impact in the majors.

Cubs prospect Jeferson Mejia is headed to the Diamondbacks as part of the Miguel Montero trade.

Mejia posted a 2.48 ERA, 1.175 WHIP, and 45/17 K/BB ratio in 40 innings this past season for the Cubs’ rookie-level Arizona League affiliate. The 20-year-old right-hander obviously has a long way to go before he can be considered a big-time pitching prospect, but it’s a nice piece for the rebuilding Diamondbacks. Mejia stands 6-foot-7 and throws a very good fastball.
