Rays optioned OF Victor Mesa Jr., LHP Joe Rock, and RHP Jesse Scholtens to minor league camp.
Mesa Jr. was acquired from the Marlins this offseason and went 2-for-5 in his brief spring appearances. He’s yet to show more than some modest batting average upside during his minor league career. Rock was a former top 10 prospect in the Rays’ organization, but he posted a 5.21 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 88/39 K/BB ratio in 96 2/3 innings at Triple-A last season, so he’ll get another shot at that level in 2026. The Rays also reassigned RHPs Andrew Wantz and Kodi Whitley to minor league camp.

Rays optioned LHP Joe Rock to Triple-A Durham.
Rock threw 52 pitches on Wednesday, allowing one run and one hit in 2 2/3 innings while striking out two and walking two. The Rays will be looking to add a fresh arm to the bullpen, so Rock will head to the minors with a 2.35 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings for the Rays this season.

Rays recalled LHP Joe Rock from Triple-A Durham.
Rock returns to Tampa Bay’s relief corps ahead of Saturday’s game against the Guardians with Brian Van Belle hitting the injured list with elbow inflammation. The 25-year-old righty has made two appearances at the highest level this season.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #68
Rays optioned LHP Joe Rock to Triple-A Durham.
The 25-year-old southpaw has done a decent job in his first two appearances with the Rays, posting a 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 9/0 K/BB ratio across five innings of work. It shouldn’t take him long to earn another opportunity with the big league club.

Rays recalled LHP Joe Rock from Triple-A Durham
After last night’s trade, the Rays have open roster spots and are calling Rock up. The 25-year-old has made two relief appearances with Tampa Bay this season but has also made 15 starts at Triple-A, so it remains to be seen what role the Rays have in mind for him.

Rays optioned LHP Joe Rock to Triple-A Durham.
Rock returns to the minors after making just one two-inning relief outing for Tampa Bay since being called up last weekend. The 24-year-old southpaw will continue operating as a starter on the doorstep of the big leagues and figures to return at some point later this summer.

Rays recalled LHP Joe Rock from Triple-A Durham.
The 24-year-old southpaw has worked almost exclusively as a starter at Triple-A Durham this season, compiling a 4.81 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and a 63/30 K/BB ratio over 73 innings in 15 appearances (14 starts). He’ll provide the Rays with a fresh bullpen arm that’s capable of working multiple innings after Friday night’s miserable 22-8 loss to the Orioles.

Rays optioned RHP Yoniel Curet and LHPs Joe Rock and Ian Seymour to Triple-A Durham; reassigned INF Brayden Taylor, OF Matthew Etzel and RHP Paul Gervase to minor league camp.
As is often the case with large batches of cuts this early in camp, there were no real surprises among the group. Curet, 22, was terrific between High-A Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery in 2024, registering a 2.95 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 159/60 K/BB ratio over 119 innings in his 26 starts. It wouldn’t be shocking to see him start a couple of games for the Rays before the 2025 season concludes.

Rays selected the contract of LHP Joe Rock from Triple-A Durham.
The move to add Rock to Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster ahead of this week’s reserve list deadline guards him from selection in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 24-year-old lefty, who was acquired back in March from the Rockies in a small trade, posted a pedestrian 4.58 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 132/35 K/BB ratio across 139 2/3 innings (27 appearances, 23 starts) last season for Triple-A Durham.
  • Starting Pitcher #95
Rays acquired LHP Joe Rock from the Rockies in exchange for SS/OF Greg Jones.
Rock pitched just two innings of spring ball with the Rockies and allowed three earned runs on four hits. The 23-year-old southpaw made 19 starts at the Double-A level last season where he posted a 5.30 ERA with a 108/32 K/BB ratio across 90 innings.
