Blue Jays recalled third baseman John Hattig from Triple-A Syracuse.
It didn’t look like Hattig would ever get a chance in Toronto when he had Troy Glaus, Shea Hillenbrand and Eric Hinske all ahead of him at third base earlier this season. Now two of those three are gone and Hattig gets to be the first native of Guam ever to play in the majors. The 26-year-old switch-hitter was batting .276/.341/.394 in 373 at-bats for Syracuse. He looked like a better prospect a couple of years ago, but it’s possible that he’ll have a career as a reserve.

Blue Jays designated infielder John Hattig for assignment.
Hattig became the first native of Guam to play in the majors when the Jays called up last August, but the 27-year-old wasn’t considered for a bench spot this spring and he’s currently hitting just .170 in Triple-A. He should clear waivers.
