Nationals right-handed pitching prospect John Simms struck out 14 batters while scattering two singles and a walk over seven one-run innings for High-A Potomac on Saturday.
Simms, the Nationals 11th round pick in 2013 out of Rice University, had his best outing of the season shutting down a Wilmington Blue Rocks lineup that included prospects Raul Mondesi, Bubba Starling, and Hunter Dozier. If he reaches his ceiling, Sims is a #5 pitcher, but he is likely destined for a role as a middle reliever with a low-90s fastball, an average slider, and an average change up.
