Royals retained and announced new contracts for minor leaguers John Whittleman, Edgar Osuna, Cody Clark, Irving Falu, Mario Santiago and Paulo Orlando.
Whittleman was acquired from Texas in March for a player to be named later and batted .234/.349/.451 in High-A Wilmington. Santiago and Orlando could be added to the 40-man roster prior to the Nov. 19 deadline, which would make them ineligible for the Rule 5 Draft.

Low Single-A Clinton’s John Whittleman hit his 11th and 12th homers on Sunday.
Even with Travis Metcalf’s promotion opening up a third base job in the organization, the Rangers have declined to promote Whittleman. He’s hitting .328/.429/.612 in his second year in the Midwest League.

John Whittleman went hitless Saturday and is 3-for-26 with nine strikeouts in the AFL.
Whittelman was able to work walks this year, but he didn’t do much else on his way to finishing with a .257/.373/.394 line in 470 at-bats, most of them coming at high-A Bakersfield. The 2005 second-round pick is just 21, but his stock is falling.

Low Single-A Clinton’s John Whittleman hit his seventh and eighth homers on Monday.
Whittleman, a 2005 second-round pick, was having a miserable first full pro season up until a few weeks ago. He’s still at .230/.325/.382 for the year, but now it at least looks like he’ll be ready to move up a level next year.

Johnny Whittleman homered twice and drove in five runs Sunday for West Oahu of the Hawaiian Winter League.
Whittleman is batting just .205/.276/.386 in 88 at-bats, but three of his four homers have come in his last two games. The 2005 second-round pick is due to either repeat the Midwest League or move up to Single-A Bakersfield next season.

Low Single-A Clinton’s John Whittleman hit his first two homers of the season Friday.
Whittleman, a 2005 second-round pick, is repeating Clinton after amassing a 657 OPS there last year. He’s hitting .325/.449/.550 so far this year and he’s only 20 years old, so he’s still a legitimate prospect.

Low Single-A Clinton’s John Whittleman went 3-for-3 with a homer and a walk on Friday.
Whittleman, a 2005 second-round pick, seems in line for a promotion. He hit just .227/.313/.343 for Clinton last year, but he’s currently at .364/.461/.664 in 107 at-bats this season.

Royals acquired minor league 3B John Whittleman from the Rangers for a player to be named later.
Whittleman was viewed as a high-upside high schooler when he was drafted in the second round back in 2005, but he’s made little progress in the minors, spending half of the 2010 season in High-A as a 23-year-old. Now 24, he’ll probably be assigned to Double-A.
