Phillies signed RHP Jonathan Hernández to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Hernández, 29, missed the majority of the 2025 season due to elbow and shoulder issues. He wound up logging just 12 innings for the Rays at Triple-A Durham where he posted a 2.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 13/6 K/BB ratio. As long as he’s healthy, Hernández adds solid bullpen depth for the Phillies and should get an opportunity at some point during the 2026 season.

Rays reassigned RHP Jonathan Hernández to minor league camp.
Hernández looked sharp in a handful of Grapefruit League appearances this spring as a non-roster invitee in Rays camp. The 28-year-old righty struggled last year in 29 relief appearances between the Rangers and Mariners, but should factor into Tampa Bay’s relief mix at some point during the year.

Rays announced that RHP Jonathan Hernández will be a non-roster invitee to spring training.
The 28-year-old Hernández was tremendous out of the bullpen for Texas in 2020 and 2022 and looked to be a potential closer of the future. However, he struggled in 2023 and then again last season, pitching to a 5.05 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 36/26 K/BB ratio in 41 innings before Texas put him on waivers. Given how much success Tampa Bay has had in the past with getting veteran relievers to put forth career-best efforts, it wouldn’t surprise us if Hernández becomes another name they can add to the list.

Mariners sent RHP Jonathan Hernández outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
Hernández went unclaimed on waivers last week after being designated for assignment and will hang around with Seattle as extra relief depth. The 28-year-old righty was scooped up off waivers earlier this month from the Rangers.

Mariners designated RHP Jonathan Hernández for assignment.
Hernández was claimed off waivers last week from the division-rival Rangers, but winds up getting jettisoned unexpectedly due to a roster crunch in Seattle. The 28-year-old made just three appearances for the Mariners. There should be some interest on waivers in the coming days.

Mariners claimed RHP Jonathan Hernandez off of waivers from the Rangers.
The hard-throwing 28-year-old right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Rangers after they acquired Andrew Chafin from the Tigers on Tuesday. Hernandez, 28, posted a 5.05 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and a 36/26 K/BB ratio across 41 innings with the Rangers this season.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #72
Rangers designated RHP Jonathan Hernandez for assignment.
Hernandez was DFA’d to make room for the newly acquired Andrew Chafin. He had a 5.05 ERA in 26 appearances for Texas this year.
  • TEX Starting Pitcher #22
Jon Gray was removed before throwing a pitch against the Blue Jays on Sunday.
No reason was given for why Gray didn’t pitch. The 32-year-old has been replaced by Jonathan Hernandez. There should be an update on why Gray is out shortly.

Rangers activated LHP Jonathan Hernández from the 15-day injured list.
Hernández will rejoin Texas’ bullpen mix after missing the first couple weeks of the season due to a left shoulder injury. He figures to pitch in low-leverage spots moving forward.

Rangers placed Jonathan Hernández (lat) on 15-day injured list.
The 27-year-old reliever has been battling a shoulder injury and it appears he’s not full ready for live action to start the regular season. Hernández compiled a 5.40 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 34/15 K/BB ratio over 31 2/3 innings in 33 appearances out of the Rangers’ bullpen in 2023.
