Braves signed RHP Jorge Juan to a minor league contract.
Juan was on Oakland’s 40-man roster as recently as May, but never wound up pitching this past season due to injury. The 24-year-old righty, who has yet to pitch above the Double-A level, represents a speculative project for the Braves.

    Athletics released RHP Jorge Juan.
Juan passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week and the Athletics were forced to release him since he was on the minor league injured list. The 23-year-old righty was added to Oakland’s 40-man roster last November after posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 40/13 K/BB ratio across 26 2/3 innings last year between Low-A Stockton and High-A Lansing. He should be able to latch on somewhere else on a minor league pact.

Athletics purchased the contract of RHP Jorge Juan from High-A Lansing.
Juan has been added to the Athletics’ 40-man roster and will be protected from next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 22-year-old righty held a 5.40 ERA and 40/13 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 frames between Low-A Stockton and High-A Lansing last season. The 6-foot-8 righty has a big arm but needs some work.
