Rivera went eighth overall in this past December’s Rule 5 Draft, but he was ultimately unable to crack the Angels’ Opening Day roster and will now return to the Astros’ minor league system. The 24-year-old righty posted a 3.81 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 95/36 K/BB ratio over 75 2/3 innings at Low-A Quad Cities in 2019.

Rivera was signed back in 2016 without much fanfare, but he’s a right-hander with a fastball that gets into the high 90s without much effort, and he mixes in a quality change with a useable breaking-ball. He’ll likely be used by the Angels in relief in 2021 -- assuming he makes the club -- but there’s potential for him to develop into a starter someday.
