Jose Arredondo allowed one run and one hit over eight innings for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday. He struck out nine.
The Angels liked Arredondo, a converted shortstop, enough to add him to the 40-man roster after he posted a 4.19 ERA in 68 2/3 IP in Rookie ball last year. He’s alrteady taken a big step forward in 2006, starting off 3-2 with a 2.28 ERA and a 68/18 K/BB ratio in 47 1/3 innings. The thought was that he might be a future reliever, but he’s now a quality prospect as a starter.

Jose Arredondo pitched a complete-game shutout Wednesday in his debut for Double-A Arkansas.
He fanned eight against Wichita, including Alex Gordon three times. Arredondo was 5-6 with a 2.30 ERA, 62 H and 115/35 K/BB in 90 innings for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. Just another very good pitching prospect for the Angels.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Reds and Jose Arredondo are close to agreeing on a two-year contract.
The deal would buy out his first two years of arbitration. Arredondo, who turns 28 in March, posted a 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio over 53 innings last season with the Reds.

Jose Arredondo’s new two-year contract extension with the Reds is worth a total of $2 million.
Arredondo signed the deal last week, avoiding arbitration for the next two seasons. The 27-year-old right-hander registered a cool 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio across 53 innings last year for the Reds. With a little better control, he could become a truly dangerous setup man.

The Reds and RHP Jose Arredondo avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year contract.
No word yet on the financial terms of the deal. Arredondo, a first-year arbitration-eligible reliever, posted a 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio in 53 innings last season for the Reds. If he can rein in his control issues a little, the 27-year-old righty could develop into a reliable setup man.

Jose Arredondo requested $875,000 and was offered $725,000 by the Reds when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday.
Arredondo, who turns 28 in March, posted a 3.23 ERA and 48/31 K/BB ratio over 53 innings last season with the Reds. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported Monday that the two sides were close to a deal that would buy out his first two years of arbitration, so perhaps they’ll make more progress in the days ahead.

Sean Marshall was pulled from a save opportunity Saturday against the Yankees.
Marshall entered the bottom of the ninth inning with a three-run cushion, but he allowed two runs on four hits before getting pulled in favor of Jose Arredondo. Arredondo then got Derek Jeter to hit into a fielder’s choice and Curtis Granderson on a ground out to first base to end it. Marshall has only blown one save in eight tries this year and has a solid 21/3 K K/BB ratio, but he owns an ugly 5.02 ERA over 14 1/3 innings. If the Reds truly have no intention of putting Aroldis Chapman in the rotation this year, the hard-throwing left-hander could eventually threaten for the closer job.

Jose Arredondo has been suspended at Triple-A Louisville for violating team rules.
Louisville manager Jim Riggleman wouldn’t go into details other than to say that Arredondo, who holds a 4.15 ERA and 35/20 K/BB ratio in 21 2/3 Triple-A frames, will be away from the club for 10-14 days. “We have basic rules, he violated one of those rules, we decided a suspension was warranted,” Riggleman explained. “I talked to my bosses in Cincinnati and this is what they came up with. He’ll be away from us maybe 10 days to two weeks. He’ll be working out, in uniform, somewhere, but it will be a while.”

Cesar Izturis, Manny Parra and Alfredo Simon are expected to make the Reds’ Opening Day roster.
The Cincinnati Enquirer’s John Fay believes that means Jason Donald, Logan Ondrusek and Jose Arredondo will not make the team. Arredondo has pitched pretty well the last two seasons for the Reds and had a great spring, so him failing to make the roster would be a surprise. Both he and Donald are out of options and, thus, would have to clear waivers in order to report to Triple-A. That seems unlikely to happen.

Reds sent RHP Jose Arredondo outright to Triple-A Louisville.
Arredondo surprisingly passed through waivers, but he’ll have to accept an assignment to Triple-A. He posted ERAs of 3.23 and 2.95 in 2011 and 2012, respectively, while striking out nearly a batter per inning, so he can certainly be useful as a middle relief option.
