    Josh Pennington had a bone chip removed from his elbow after the conclusion of the season.
    The Brewers acquired Pennington from the Red Sox as part of their trade of Tyler Thornburg earlier this week. The 21-year-old right-hander pitched to a 2.29 ERA with a 71/40 K/BB ratio in 78 2/3 innings in Low-A last season. His rehab status and readiness for spring training should clarify in the coming weeks.

    Pennington, a 29th round pick in 2014, has posted a 2.29 ERA and 71/40 K/BB ratio over his first 78 2/3 innings in pro ball. The Cape May, New Jersey native is still rather raw, but he has a big arm. He’s an interesting pickup for rebuilding Milwaukee.

    And it sounds like he could soon begin facing live hitters. Pennington needed surgery over the winter for a bone chip in his elbow but he should be ready to join one of the Brewers’ minor league affiliates sometime in July. The 21-year-old right-hander was acquired from the Red Sox in the Tyler Thornburg trade and is sitting on a promising 2.29 ERA through 78 2/3 career minor league frames.

    Pennington suffered an arm injury and has decided to call it quits rather than go through rehab. The 22-year-old was acquired from the Red Sox along with Travis Shaw in the deal that sent Tyler Thornburg to Boston.
