Carela returns to Chicago on a minor league deal just a couple weeks after being released. The 23-year-old righty underwent Tommy John surgery last month and will be sidelined into next year.

The White Sox said that prospect Juan Carela is set for Tommy John surgery.

Carela, 23, was added to the 40-man over the winter, though he was a long shot to make much of a contribution this season. He was 7-7 with a 3.71 ERA and a 114/45 K/BB in 106 2/3 innings between High-A and Double-A last season.
