Padilla

Padilla, 27, had a 7.71 ERA in 25 2/3 IP for the Yankees and Reds last season. He will be a longshot to win a spot in the Mets’ bullpen.

Padilla entered the game with a 12.71 ERA in 10 appearances for the Reds. He gave up three hits and walked two in his two innings today, but the Cubs couldn’t push across a run against him.

Chad Durbin and Masao Kida were claimed, so Padilla might soon find himself with a new team. He’s no worse of a bet.

Padilla is nothing more than an 11th or 12th pitcher. The 27-year-old had a 3.97 ERA in 11 1/3 IP with the Yankees earlier this season, but he gave up 16 hits, walked four and struck out just five.

The three relievers all could see time with the Mets this year. Jacobs and Pagan shouldn’t reach the majors until rosters expand.

Padilla had a 1.44 ERA and a 59/9 K/BB ratio for Triple-A Norfolk, so he could be quite useful for the Mets in the second half.

What’s taken them so long? Padilla wasn’t any good for the Reds last season, but he had a 1.44 ERA and a 59/9 K/BB ratio in 62 1/3 IP for Norfolk. He might be of some use in middle relief.

Padilla entered with the bases loaded and two outs in a 7-3 game in the eighth inning. He got Mark Sweeney to fly out to end the inning and bail out Aaron Heilman.

Estrada was a goner from the moment Brian Schneider was acquired, if not before then. Johnson and Padilla get knocked off the roster because they haven’t recovered from injuries as well as hoped. The Mets may offer minor league contracts to both.
