Reds placed RHP Julian Aguiar (elbow) on the 60-day injured list.
The Reds needed to clear space on the 40-man roster for newly-signed Scott Barlow, and so Aguiar was moved to the 60-day IL to make that space. The 23-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery in October and will miss the entire 2025 season.

Reds signed Scott Barlow to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.
The move was reported earlier this week and is now official. Barlow will join Taylor Rogers as reinforcements at the back end of the Reds’ bullpen and could be an option for saves if Alexis Diaz struggles with his command again in 2025. Julian Aguiar was placed on the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.

Contrary to an earlier report, Julian Aguiar has not undergone Tommy John surgery and is seeking a second opinion.
MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon corrected his previous item. Aguiar finished his season on the IL with what was described as a shoulder sprain.

Julian Aguiar will miss the 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Aguiar was diagnosed with a shoulder strain back in September, but clearly there was more to the injury than first believed — or at least first described. The surgery will keep him from being able to pitch in 2025, and he’ll battle for a roster spot in 2026 if all goes well.

Reds placed RHP Julian Aguiar on the 15-day injured list with a sprained right shoulder.
Aguiar had been expected to start Wednesday’s game. No word yet on how the Reds will fill that slot. The 23-year-old Aguiar came up from Triple-A in August to go 2-1 with a 6.25 ERA in seven starts for the Reds. He might have a shot at competing for a rotation spot next spring, but some more minor league time would be for the best.

Julian Aguilar was tagged for seven runs in four-plus innings by the Braves in Thursday’s loss.
Aguiar gave up two homers, the seventh and eighth he’s allowed in 31 2/3 innings this season. Somewhat incredibly, this is the Reds’ first loss in seven games with Aguiar on the mound; they had been 6-0 in spite of his 4.88 ERA. Aguiar should get one more start against the Guardians next week.

Julian Aguiar picked up his second big-league win after allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings Friday versus the Twins.
Aguiar allowed three hits, walked two and struck out four. He’s failed to complete five innings in four of his six big-league starts, but the Reds have managed to go 6-0 with him on the mound. The win tonight moved him to 2-0 with a 4.88 ERA. He still seems like a weak play with the Braves next on the schedule.

Julian Aguiar shut the Mets out with two walks and two strikeouts through 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Sunday.
Aguiar and his sinker-slider combo kept the Mets at bay in this one. He mostly stayed out of the heart of the plate and frustrated most of the right-handed batters with a bevy of sinkers right on their hands. The Mets could barely sustain a rally in what turned out to be a solid yet unspectacular start from the young righty. He’s scheduled to face the Cardinals on the road next time out if he gets another turn in the Reds’ rotation.

Julian Aguiar allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Reds’ 5-3 victory over the Astros on Monday.
Aguiar gave up two hits, walked two and struck out two. This was the shortest of his four major league starts this year. He’s off the fantasy radar unless things change drastically. Aguiar is 1-0 with a 6.48 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and nine strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings over four starts. The 23-year-old rookie right-hander is set to face the Mets on the road this weekend if Cincinnati keeps him in the rotation.

Reds’ manager David Bell announced that Julian Aguiar will start on Monday against the Astros.
The 23-year-old hurler was shelled for six runs over four innings in a no-decision against the Athletics his last time out. He’ll attempt to improve upon his 6.43 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 7/4 K/BB ratio (14 innings) when he takes the mound at home against Justin Verlander and the Astros on Monday.
