Tigers first base coach Kimera Bartee passed away Monday at the age of 49.
The cause of death is unknown at this time. Bartee, who played for the Tigers from 1996-1999, was promoted from roving outfield and baserunning coordinator to the position of first base coach this past July. He also worked for the Pirates and Phillies after his playing career. “Throughout his time in our organization as both a player and coach, Kimera was known as a kind soul but intense competitor who did his best every day to elevate those around him to do great things,” Tigers GM Al Avila said in a statement. “While Tigers fans got used to seeing him in the first base coach’s box, Kimera’s impact on our ballclub went far deeper and will be sorely missed.” Our condolences to Bartee’s family and friends.
