Diamondbacks recalled C Konrad Schmidt from Triple-A Reno.
Schmidt will provide depth at catcher for the D’Backs while Miguel Montero fights through a groin injury.
  • WSH Catcher #14
Miguel Montero (groin) is not in Saturday’s lineup.
Montero, who just signed a five-year, $60 million contract extension, hasn’t played since Monday due to a left groin strain. Konrad Schmidt is starting behind the plate on Saturday night against the Brewers.
  • Diamondbacks optioned C Konrad Schmidt to Triple-A Reno.
He was hitless in just four at-bats in his short stint with the big club. Miguel Montero (groin) is expected back in the lineup Monday, so the D’Backs no longer need an extra catcher.
  • Diamondbacks recalled C Konrad Schmidt from Triple-A Reno.
Schmidt, 28, appeared in one game with the Diamondbacks earlier this season. He’s providing catching depth behind Miguel Montero.
  • The Diamondbacks are expected to recall catcher Konrad Schmidt from Triple-A Reno prior to Tuesday’s game.
He’ll provide some extra insurance behind the plate while Miguel Montero nurses a groin injury. Schmidt, 27, is hitting .274/.336/.419 with three homers and a .755 OPS in 31 games at the Triple-A level this year. Mike Zagurski will likely be sent down in a corresponding roster move.
  • Rangers claimed C Konrad Schmidt off waivers from the Diamondbacks.
Schmidt, 28, has made a couple brief appearances with the D’Backs the last few years but has spent most of his time at Triple-A, where he batted .277/.338/.413 with seven homers last season. He seems unlikely to earn an Opening Day roster spot.
  • Rangers sent C Konrad Schmidt outright to Triple-A Round Rock.
Schmidt cleared waivers and will still receive an invite to spring training. He spent most of 2012 at Triple-A, where he batted .277/.338/.413 with seven homers last season.
  • Rangers released C Konrad Schmidt.
Schmidt was in camp with the Rangers as a non-roster invite. He batted .277/.338/.413 with seven home runs at the Triple-A level last season and will try to latch on elsewhere as organizational depth.
  • Diamondbacks purchased the contract of C Konrad Schmidt from Double-A Mobile.
Schmidt, 26, turned in a solid .315/.373/.490 batting line, 11 homers and 65 RBI in 394 at-bats this season at the Double-A level. He will serve as an emergency third catcher for the D’Backs down the stretch.
  • Diamondbacks optioned C Konrad Schmidt to Triple-A Reno; reassigned RHPs Micah Owings and Brian Sweeney and OF Wily Mo Pena to minor league camp.
Schmidt went 4-for-14 (.286) with a pair of homers during exhibition action, but he wasn’t going to threaten Henry Blanco for his job. Pena actually played pretty well this spring, too, batting .341 (14-for-41) with one double and three RBI. Perhaps they can convince him to stick around at the Triple-A level.
