Rays optioned INF Jadher Areinamo to Triple-A Durham; Reassigned C Logan Driscoll, RHPs Brody Hopkins, TJ Nichols, Austin Vernon and LHP John Rooney to minor league camp.
No real surprises among this batch of cuts for the Rays. Areinamo may have had an opportunity to open some eyes during Grapefruit League play, but he was shelved early on due to tightness in his right hamstring and is expected to miss “a bit” of time.
  • TB Catcher #22
Rays re-signed C Logan Driscoll to a minor league contract.
Driscoll is back in the fold as emergency organizational catching depth for Tampa Bay at Triple-A Durham just a couple days after being released by the organization. The 27-year-old backstop got into 15 contests last season for the Rays but hasn’t appeared in the majors during the 2025 campaign.
  • FA Catcher #22
    Rays released C Logan Driscoll.
Driscoll’s release clears room on the 40-man roster for Bob Seymour. The 27-year-old will look for a new organization, and it’s worth noting that he wasn’t designated for assignment or outrighted. Often, that means a player has an opportunity to play overseas.
  • TB Center Fielder
Rays reassigned OF Chandler Simpson and SS Carson Williams to minor league camp; optioned RHP Jacob Waguespack, RHP Cole Sulser, OF Jake Mangum, C Logan Driscoll and OF Kameron Misner to Triple-A Durham.
Simpson is the headliner here for fantasy purposes since his top-of-the-scale speed gives him immediate mixed-league relevance once the Rays opt to give him a shot in the big leagues following a surreal 104-steal campaign last year between High-A Bowling Green and Double-A Montgomery. Williams is universally regarded as the organization’s top prospect and offers some serious power-speed combo potential. He’s a phenomenal defender, which will keep his bat in Tampa Bay’s lineup, but there are some serious contact concerns, which he may never solve and limit his ceiling.
  • TB Catcher #41
Rays selected the contract of C Logan Driscoll from Triple-A Durham.
Driscoll will be a third catcher for the Rays for the final month of the season. Tampa Bay won’t have to make a corresponding transaction with rosters expanding Sunday.
  • TB Shortstop
The Rays optioned SS/3B Junior Caminero and INF/OF Greg Jones, INF Austin Shenton and RHP Yoniel Curet to Triple-A Durham; reassigned OFs Ruben Cardenas, Niko Hulsize, Kameron Misner, Tristan Peters, C Logan Driscoll, LHP Antonio Jimenez, RHP Enmanuel Mejia, INFs Tanner Murray and Carson Williams to minor league camp.
It’s now official that one of the top fantasy prospects in baseball will open the season in the minors. In nine spring games, the 20-year-old went 7-for-26 (.269) with one homer and four RBI. It was reported earlier in February that the team was unlikely to have Caminero on the Opening Day roster due to his inexperience at the professional level. We’ll see if the team decides to play him at shortstop or third base given the Amed Rosario signing this offseason, but expect the young prospect to be called up if there is an injury on that side of the infield. The other notable name here is Carson Williams, who has some diverging opinions from scouts and evaluations, but is generally viewed as one of the most promising middle infield prospects in the game entering this season.
  • TB Catcher #22
Rays acquired C/OF Logan Driscoll and OF Manuel Margot from the Padres in exchange for RHP Emilio Pagan.
Driscoll was a fourth-round pick by the Padres in the 2019 draft. He played in 39 games for Single-A Hudson Valley after the draft, splitting his time between the outfield and catcher. He batted .268/.340/.458 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 142 at-bats. The 22-year-old is a few years away from the major leagues.
