Luis Rodriguez was held out of Friday’s lineup due to a right hand injury.
Rodriguez suffered three gashes on his hand when the Twins’ Danny Valencia caught him with his spikes on a stolen base attempt during Thursday’s game. “He got me good,” said Rodriguez. “I tried to grip my bat and I can’t do it, so I don’t know. I’ll see how it feels tomorrow.” With Brendan Ryan also out of the lineup, Kyle Seager made the start at shortstop Friday night against the Rangers.

Luis Rodriguez has elected free agency.
Rodriguez opted to become a free agent after being outrighted off the 40-man roster. The 31-year-old infielder batted .197/.299/.333 with two homers, 14 RBI and a .633 OPS over 139 plate appearances with the Mariners this season. He will likely have to settle for a spring training invite somewhere.

Mariners re-signed INF Luis Rodriguez to a minor league contract.
The contract includes an invite to spring training. Rodriguez, 31, batted .197/.299/.333 with two homers, 14 RBI and a .633 OPS over 139 plate appearances this season. With the ability to play multiple infield positions, he has a pretty good chance of making the M’s Opening Day roster.

Luis Rodriguez’s third hit of the night was his biggest on Wednesday, as he took the Yankees’ Cory Wade deep for a walkoff blast in the 12th.
Rodriguez doubled twice off Yankees starter Ivan Nova. Coming into this evening, Rodriguez had just eight extra-base hits in 91 at-bats. A 31-year-old career .239 hitter, Rodriguez and his .198/.301/.354 2011 triple slash are going to have a hard time finding a spot on a major-league roster next season.

Luis Rodriguez returned to action on Monday, batting 0-for-4 in Seattle’s 4-2 win.
A right hand injury sidelined Rodriguez during the previous three games. He’s hitting .195/.301/.336 through 113 at-bats.

Angels signed INF Luis Rodriguez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Rodriguez batted just .296/.389/.452 with 12 home runs and 51 RBI in 422 plate appearances this summer for Triple-A Tacoma -- an affiliate of the Mariners. He could land a spot on Anaheim’s Opening Day roster.

Luis Rodriguez and Luis Jimenez have not yet arrived in Angels camp due to visa issues.
It’s unfortunate especially for Rodriguez, as he actually has a pretty decent shot to win a utility job. That said, their absence shouldn’t drag on too long.

Luis Rodriguez and Luis Jimenez have reported to Angels’ camp.
The two had been dealing with visa issues. Jimenez is expected to begin the season in the minors, but Rodriguez has a shot to win a bench job with the Halos.
