It’s unfortunate especially for Rodriguez, as he actually has a pretty decent shot to win a utility job. That said, their absence shouldn’t drag on too long.

The two had been dealing with visa issues. Jimenez is expected to begin the season in the minors, but Rodriguez has a shot to win a bench job with the Halos.

Rodriguez, 29, posted a .202/.319/.260 batting average with two homers and 16 RBI over 208 at-bats in 2009 for the Padres. He was signed to a minors deal by the Indians this winter, but was cut in spring training.
