Athletics reassigned RHP Mac Suzuki, C Raul Casanova, OF Hiram Bocachica, OF Danny Putnam, RHP Alex Santos, and RHP Adam Johnson to minor league camp; optioned OF Javier Herrera to Triple-A Sacramento.
No one here had a chance of winning a roster spot. Maybe Bocachica could have been the fifth outfielder in the event of a Frank Thomas DL stint, but he had wrist surgery and will miss April. That Casanova is getting sent down before Jeremy Brown or John Baker suggests that the A’s might go young should one of their top two catchers get hurt. Suzuki, back from Japan, had allowed five earned runs in six innings.

The Athletics have reportedly signed right-hander Mac Suzuki to a minor league contract.
Suzuki spent the last three years in Japan, pitching poorly for the most part. The 30-year-old has a 5.72 ERA in 465 2/3 IP in parts of six seasons in the majors. He’ll be invited to spring training by the A’s, but he’s not going to make the team.

Ex-Royals pitcher Mac Suzuki is attempting a comeback in the majors this spring.
Suzuki has thrown for the Indians and was in Royals camp Tuesday. He’s also scheduled to throw for the Dodgers this week. Suzuki, 33, was 4-3 with a 4.00 ERA in 34 relief appearances last season in Japan. He hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2002, when he had a 9.00 ERA in 21 innings with the Royals. He’s a long shot to pitch at the major league level this season.
