With Donnie Sadler called up to the majors, Alexander was again needed at Triple-A Oklahoma.

Alexander was batting .167 in 60 AB for Oklahoma.

Jason Conti, who was also designated for assignment earlier this week, also cleared waivers, and will join Alexander in Oklahoma.

Alexander, 35, last was in the majors with the Padres in Sept. 2005, going 2-for-18. He is a career .232/.284/.326 hitter in 1,237 at-bats. The Padres will have him play behind Geoff Blum until Khalil Greene is activated from the disabled list.

Alexander spent a third of the season in the majors with the Rangers, but he received just 22 at-bats. It’d be for the best if he got 22 fewer next year.

Alexander was just picked up by the Padres last week. The 34-year-old will move into a utility role.

They’re not really going to put him on the roster, are they? There’s just no way a team with so many Rangers castoffs can possibly hope to advance in the playoffs. Alexander was hitting .309/.365/.473 in 414 AB for Triple-A Oklahoma. The 19-year-old Jimenez had a 3.86 ERA in 13 starts for the Rookie AZL Padres.

Trevor Hoffman bailed Alexander out after the error put men on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth. It’s hard to believe manager Bruce Bochy used Alexander over Damian Jackson with Greene needing the day off. It’s a mistake he shouldn’t make again.

Amazingly, Alexander actually made a few starts for the Padres last month. He won’t be brought back to act as insurance once again.

Alexander hit .258 in 120 games for Triple-A Oklahoma this year. He’ll remain with the club in 2004.
