Rockies acquired RHP Marcos Carvajal from the Brewers for two minor leaguers and cash following the conclusion of the Rule 5 draft.
The Rockies could have saved themselves a little money and waited until the second round to take Matt Merricks. Now they have two Rule 5 picks from the Dodgers. Spring training will determine whether they keep either.

Marcos Carvajal gave up three runs in an inning of relief yesterday in his first appearance for Caracas of the VWL.
Carvajal pitched only 53 innings for the Rockies after being taken in the Rule 5 draft, so taking part in winter ball should do him some good. He’ll be a candidate to make the Rockies out of spring training next season, but now that the team can send him to the minors, it might decide to do so.

The Mets got Carvajal off waivers from the Rays back in February. The 23-year-old had a 5.22 ERA in 23 starts and five relief appearances for Double-A Binghamton. He still has a chance of making it as a reliever, but his stuff isn’t what it used to be.

Marlins sent RHP Marcos Carvajal outright to Triple-A Albuquerque and invited him to spring training.
Carvajal was designated for assignment last week after being claimed off waivers from the Mets in mid-September. His stock has dipped of late, but the 23-year-old right-hander is still capable of becoming a useful reliever.

Marlins designated RHP Marcos Carvajal for assignment.
Carvajal was claimed off waivers from the Mets last September. The Marlins would like to keep the reliever in the organization, but he was the most expendable player on their roster.

Marcos Carvajal was charged with seven runs in one-third of an inning while facing the Brewers today.
He allowed three hits, walked three and hit a batter. Carvajal, 21, was fairly effective while spending all of last season in the majors with the Rockies, but the Mariners are probably going to send him down to start this year.
