McCormick, a supplemental first-round pick out of Baylor, allowed one hit in six scoreless innings for short-season Single-A New Jersey before being moved up.

McCormick, 26, was selected as a supplemental first-round pick in 2005, but never lived up to his potential in parts of four minor league seasons, posting a 4.31 ERA and 6.1 BB/9 in 47 games (42 starts). Plagued with shoulder problems for the duration of his time in the St. Louis system, McCormick did not pitch in 2009.
