Rockies acquired LHP Mason Albright and RHP Jake Madden from the Angels for OF Randal Grichuk, 1B C.J. Cron and cash considerations.
Albright, 20, ranked as the Angels’ 28th best prospect according to MLB Pipeline. The left-hander was the Angels’ 12th round selection from the 2021 draft class. He — like Jake Madden — has spent the 2023 season at Single-A Inland Empire where he has compiled a 3.62 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and an 86/20 K/BB ratio over 79 2/3 innings in 15 appearances (14 starts). The Rockies need all of the pitching help that they can get, so there’s nothing wrong with picking up a couple of intriguing young arms for expiring contracts.
